What could possibly cause a sociopathic war criminal like
George Bush to do a gigantic flip-flop and humble himself by
sending senior diplomats to talk to Iran? Obvious answer:
the potential loss of oil contracts in Iraq and the fear of
looking foolish when America finds out the Iranians have
outsmarted him in Iraq.
-----------------
"Bush Seeks 'False Comfort Of Appeasement,' Makes 'Most
Significant' Contact With Iran Since 1979
The Bush administration has decided to "send a senior
American official to participate in international talks with
Iran this weekend," effectively abandoning "its longstanding
position that it will only meet face-to-face with Iran after
it first suspends uranium enrichment.":
President George W. Bush has authorized the most significant
U.S. diplomatic contact with Iran since the Islamic
Revolution in 1979, sending the U.S. State Department's
third-ranking official to Geneva for a meeting this weekend
on Iran's nuclear program, administration officials said.
The decision appeared to bend, if not exactly break, the
administration's insistence that it would not negotiate with
Iran over its nuclear programs unless it first suspended
uranium enrichment.
Bush's decision to allow American diplomats to meet with
Iranian officials - while welcome - is surprising. In fact,
just two months ago, Bush said, in a speech before the
Israeli parliament, that those who favor rigorous diplomacy
with Iran (including his own Defense Secretary) are
supporting a policy of appeasement toward terrorists . . ."

That would be my guess. We'll send John Bolton or somebody like that
over there to put up a bunch of conditions and make a bunch of silly
demands that nobody would ever agree to, then BushCo will feign shock
when the Iranians tell us to go fuck ourselves and then they'll go
back to the sabre rattling that they prefer anyway. |

Certainly cuts "No Negotiations" McCain off at the knees, though!
Apparently Bush has decided that Barak Obama was right after all.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Bush administration has decided to break with previous policy by sending one of its most senior diplomats to engage Iran's top nuclear official, the White House announced Wednesday.
Undersecretary of State William Burns will head to Switzerland for talks on Saturday.
The move could dramatically alter the three-decade stand-off between the U.S. and Iran. Some western nations and Israel suspect Iran is intent on developing nuclear weapons and want Tehran to suspend uranium enrichment. Iran says it wants to develop nuclear power to produce electricity.
Undersecretary of State William Burns will accompany a European Union delegation during a meeting with Saeed Jalili, Iran's top nuclear official, in Switzerland on Saturday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. The delegation meeting with the Iranians will be led by the European Union's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana.

A very necessary step towards the Two-State Solution.
